      Hi poppycourtney!

So, in my lab, we are working on making extremely small materials. We do this using a lot of different kinds of experiments. The most recent experiments we have been doing are using microwaves to heat up solutions containing all our starting chemicals, which react to form our nanoparticles. After we finish our experiments, we have to check to see if our particles are as small as we hope they are. To do this, we use large microscopes which are capable of seeing individual atoms, so they are powerful enough to take images of single nanoparticles. We make all kinds of nanoparticles – some are magnetic, some are fluorescent and some can have interesting electronic properties.

I hope this answers your question!
