I’m not a very sporty guy, but I’d say fencing. I started it only recently but totally love it. It’s fun because it does not require much physical strength – but a lot of speed, agility, and wits! And it’s also exciting because it puts you in a one-to-one confrontation with someone else, challenging both his skills and his strategies. It really feels like a duel from ancient times – well, without the death risk, luckily. Hence it’s awesome and I regret not starting it earlier!

It has to be football for me. Played for the local boys club through both primary and high school, in every position except striker (including a couple of seasons in goals), captained for a bit and won some awards in the process – skill and player of the year awards. One of my favourite 11-aside games was a home match where I was in goals for the 1st half and was put on the right-wing for the 2nd half. Took a long throw-in, got a pass-back, ran into the box while holding off a defender and scored in off the far-post. Ended up winning the game 7-5!. Ski-jumping is a close 2nd (used to watch it alot on Eurosport) – never had the chance to try it but looks amazing fun!

My favourite sport would have to be tennis. I’ve played since I was little, and find it lots of fun playing with friends. One of the exciting things about coming across to the UK was getting to play on proper grass courts, and getting to see Wimbledon.

When I was living in Australia, I also really liked playing beach volleyball. It’s loads of fun because you get to throw yourself around on the sand, and try out some crazy shots. Unfortunately, the weather’s mostly not good enough here to play beach volleyball 🙂

I wasn’t much into sports when I was at school (a lack of coordination and the ability to catch things reliably didn’t help…) I took up archery a few years ago, the kind that they have at the olympics and I absolutely love that. I’ve just finished a two day competition with 8 other folk from my university. It’s great fun, the feeling you get when you are shooting really well is indescribable! I love the social side to it – we spend the night between the two days out in a field with a bonfire and a barbecue, good times 🙂

I don’t think I’m very good at sports, but that doesn’t stop me giving things a go! At the moment, I’ve been doing some running – I completed my first half marathon and first 10km races this year. That was hard work!

When it comes to watching sports, I really like cycling at the moment. Yesterday in Glasgow (where I live) I went to see the UK National Road Race Championships – I even got to cheer on Lizzie Armitstead and Mark Cavendish who were the final winners!!
